A Night About Mike Hailwood
Local fans of the legendary motorcycle champion Mike Hailwood helped raise £1,111 at a special evening held to celebrate his career and raise money for Midlands Air Ambulance.
‘A Night About Mike Hailwood’ event organised at Staffordshire University and hosted by his son Dave was attended by 80 people who enjoyed a selection of films, anecdotes and memorabilia including an old Honda RC181 500 raced by Mike and a new MV replica.
Mike ‘the Bike’, who died in 1981, was regarded by many as one of the greatest bikers of all time with multiple world Championships and 14 Isle of Man TT wins. He was one of the few men to compete at Grand Prix level in both motorcycle and car racing.
The event was organised by Nick Taylor of Midlands Floors and Anthony Thane of Stafford-based video company Humanoid Productions.
Anthony explains: “Midlands Air Ambulance Charity are responsible for funding and operating three air ambulances serving the Midlands. Every time they are called out it costs £2,500 and they need £6.5 million a year to keep them going.
They receive no government or lottery funding and are entirely dependent on voluntary donations. Thanks to everyone who turned out to support us”
