Trevor the Traffic Cone
The Brief
Time Media asked Humanoid to produce a short animated pilot for children’s television, based on a character of their creation: Trevor the Traffic Cone. The short video needed to serve as both a proof of concept and a teaser for future episodes, driven by Time’s specially-composed theme song.
The Solution
We collaborated with Time Media to develop Trevor’s world and a plotted a short, storyboarded sequence to give viewers a first glimpse. We worked with expert character artists to perfect Trevor’s appearance and movement, bringing him to life for the finished sequence.
The Result
Time Media were very excited to receive the finished video! After working on Trevor’s story for years, they are finally ready to begin the next stage of development, and are in talks with more than one major broadcaster to bring the character to children’s television.
Humanoid recently finished production on Trevor the Traffic Cone: a short 3D-animated TV pilot for entertainment production company Time Media.
The 45-second animation introduces the show’s star, Trevor — an unassuming traffic cone magically brought to life by a lightning storm at the cone factory. The newly-anthropomorphised Trevor’s magical powers of movement, speech and flight open the door to a world of adventure on the highways and beyond.
The video uses fully-rendered 3D character animation and environments to showcase Trevor, briefly explain his origin story and show “holiday snaps” from his future travels to demonstrate his storytelling potential.
The producers at Time Media have some crazy escapades mapped out for Trevor’s first series and are working on bringing him to the small screen in his very own TV show soon. Stay tuned!
“Trevor was a real departure from our usual fare — it’s been great fun to work with the Time Media team on bringing the character to life. After a sneak peek at their series bible and treatment for the first few episodes, I can guarantee I’d be tuning in!
This is definitely a passion project for Time Media, and we wish them every success. Trevor’s unlike anything else on kids’ TV today — let’s hope we see a lot more of him on the air!”
