Photorealistic CAD Renders
Too late to capture your best one-off products on video? Don’t be so sure! Humanoid can shoot the impossible in a virtual studio, using company archives.
Tight production schedules are something many manufacturers have in common — there isn’t always time to call a video crew in the hours before a landmark product gets shipped to the customer. Even if there was, the workshop floor can be an impractical, unattractive backdrop that doesn’t present the high quality of your work in the best light.
“We found it was a recurring problem among the engineering companies we spoke to. They all have a history of special projects: large-scale, high-profile one-offs that they’d mention in passing, with a comment like ‘shame it’s too late to get that on video’.
When Grenville Engineering showed us the detailed CAD schematics they kept on file from all their previous jobs, we began to think ‘what if it isn’t?'”

A manufacturer’s 3D design plans describe the geometry of a product’s components and the structure of its final assembly, as well as storing information about the materials each part is made from. It’s possible to send this data to 3D animation software and recreate the product perfectly, with photorealistic lighting and texture effects.
“Once the design’s loaded into our 3D package, we can work with it exactly the way we would on a shoot: we can get extreme close-ups, move our camera around the product, set moving parts in motion — even fly inside, which would be hard to achieve on location without some very elaborate equipment.
We’ve got exactly the same control of lighting and backdrop as if we’d transported these components to a professional photography studio. When you consider their size and weight, the time and money being saved is incredible.”

Grenville was the first of our clients to benefit from the new service, with the freedom to choose a favourite case study from the past decade for each of the key sectors featured in their video.
The resulting clips sit seamlessly alongside the live-action video footage from our camera crew’s location shoot at the factory. Grenville’s clients recognise their products in the video and many are surprised to learn that none of the shots were “real”.
If you want to showcase your best work from years gone by, HD video is still the perfect way. Get in touch to find out how we could transform your old product design files into a striking and memorable video marketing tool.
