Opening Doors: The Making Of
The Brief
Staffordshire University asked Humanoid to create a short highlights video showing the making of their new TV advert. The edit should focus on student involvement with the project.
The Solution
We interviewed staff and students about their roles, with a small mobile video crew shadowing the production from start to finish. The edit was released alongside the ad.
The Result
The resulting 2-minute video was widely shared on social media and well-received, with over 30,000 views on YouTube. The video was central to a special premiere event for the advert.
Staffordshire University commissioned Humanoid to shadow the production of its most recent TV advertisement, producing a “making of” highlights video to take viewers behind the scenes during production.
The new advert will be screened in regional cinemas and on Channel 4, launching Staffs’ recruitment campaign for the next two years.
The shoot took place over two days in August and featured a number of the University’s flagship facilities, including the mock law courts and operating theatre, the television studio and motorsport workshops.
Humanoid captured all the action, combining footage of the activity on set with interviews from the cast and crew, as students and staff worked side-by-side to promote the University.
The advert stared Amit Shah, a Staffordshire graduate best known for his role opposite Dame Helen Mirren in the feature film The Hundred-Foot Journey.
“What’s so great about this advert is that it’s 100 per cent real. We feature the real Staffordshire countryside, the University’s vocational facilities and real staff, students and alumni. We hope that it will give the University community and the people of Staffordshire a sense of pride.”
—Georgina Kelly, Staffs’ Director of Marketing and PR
