L’École des Mines d’Alès
As Staffordshire alumni, it was a proud moment for Humanoid to return to the University’s TV studio as lecturers.
Information Technology apprentices from L’École des Mines d’Alès crossed the channel to study at Staffs and experienced a hands-on 4-day workshop on studio production.
Beginning the week with no prior experience of video production or broadcast technology, the students produced a 5-minute live informercial, making use of the studio cameras, lighting rig, audio and vision mixing desks, graphics computer and AutoCue system.
“We have been working with EMA Ales for a number of years but this was the first time that we had been asked to provide this kind of experience for their students. Humanoid did a fantastic job and we hope that in future years this type of event will be repeated, not only for EMA, but also for other International partners of ours”
—Dr Neil Hart, Staffordshire University’s International Partnerships Manager.
The week began with a crash course on using the studio hardware, followed by a practical experimentation session. The following day, work began on producing pre-recorded video segments for the show, and students were trained on camera and post-production techniques.

After practicing the running order in the studio for a day, the students were well-prepared for the scheduled “on air” session. Participants were sent a commemorative recording of their live show
The studio training was a hit with the French students, who enjoyed it immensely:
“This lecture was awesome, I really enjoy your course”
—Cyril , an EMA student.
The workshop was tremendously rewarding to run, and Humanoid are looking forward to the next opportunity to share the knowledge and skills we picked up while studying at Staffordshire.
