Introducing Sealwise
The Brief
Sealwise asked Humanoid to create an authoritative explainer video about the benefits of their Waterproof Construction Board for the healthcare industry.
The Solution
Humanoid combined live action, visual effects and animation to bring the benefits home, with presentation by Microbiology Professor Anthony Hilton.
The Result
The launch of the video triggered a surge in interest, leading directly to a number of sales. It was soon re-released in Mandarin and Arabic.
Humanoid produced the launch video for a revolutionary new material that has already begun to transform a huge range of industries: Sealwise Waterproof Construction Board.
Durable, watertight, fire resistant and antibacterial, the material presents a range of benefits that needed to be summarised and demonstrated in a clear and credible introduction. Sealwise’s first target was the healthcare industry, and they approached Humanoid after seeing our series of animated promotional videos for antimicrobials giant, Addmaster.
“Sealwise set us an interesting challenge: we knew the video had to be watchable and engaging for a good three and a half minutes, while in essence talking about an inanimate grey board.
Using a presenter — a world expert — was a huge step in the right direction, but we knew it would double the impact if we could bring the scenario to life around him.”
-Tom Down, Humanoid’s Project Director
The Sealwise shoot was the perfect trial for Humanoid’s brand new video studio in Birmingham’s Southside. Renowned Professor of Microbiology Anthony Hilton was filmed in 4k ultra-high definition against a floor-to-ceiling green screen. Tiny tracking markers on the cove allowed the crew to use photogrammetry to replace the studio backdrop with a digitally generated 3D hospital ward.
Additional live action elements including Sealwise furniture were shot against the white infinity wall, and the voiceover script (co-written by Professor Hilton) was recorded on the acoustically-treated soundstage.
In post-production, the features and benefits of the Waterproof Construction Board were brought to life through a combination of 3D animation, stylised motion graphics and particle dynamics, to show the material withstanding fire, water, corrosive chemicals and contagious bacteria.
Immediately upon the video’s release, Sealwise requested two additional versions: in Mandarin Chinese and Arabic. The script was professionally translated, and the narration dubbed by a native voiceover artist, while the on-screen text was seamlessly re-animated in the new languages.
Sealwise have been using their promotional video to secure contracts with healthcare organisations around the world, and are preparing their next set of video campaigns to target additional industries. Watch this space!
