Fan Cooler 360s
The Brief
The marketing team at GDM Heat Transfer asked Humanoid to take a series of product 360s showing their specialist cooling systems. The sequence would need to loop seamlessly on GDM’s website.
The Solution
We mounted each fan on a turntable in the studio and set up a DSLR camera to take HD stills at increments as it turned. The sequence was cleaned up in post-production using VFX.
The Result
GDM were very impressed by the resulting image sequences and are incorporating them into their new website as part of their company-wide rebrand, with future plans to expand the range.
Humanoid has just finished creating a set of product 360s for GDM Heat Transfer’s new website.
GDM — specialists in aluminium heat technology since the 1980s — have started to use the power of video to showcase some of their most popular products, giving website visitors a much clearer view of the product’s design and quality.
To create the full 360 the fan coolers were mounted on a turntable in the studio, against a white infinity cove. Still photographs were taken incrementally as the turntable revolved, then cleaned up in post-production and exported as a web-friendly sequence.
“The great thing about product 360s like this is that they can be created from either physical objects or as little as schematic plans.”
—Chris Gandy, Humanoid’s Creative Director
Product 360s can also be created from photorealistic CG renders of digital CAD models, making them the ideal way to showcase one-off products and larger work that may be difficult to photograph in a studio.
Both the physical and virtual 360s can be embedded into an interactive web player, giving the user total control of the perspective with controls similar to Google Street View.
